The poverty stricken Reds are commoners, living under the rule of the Silvers, elite warriors with god-like powers.
To Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from The Stilts, it looks like nothing will ever change.
Mare finds herself working in the Silver Palace, at the centre of
those she hates the most. She quickly discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy Silver control.
But power is a dangerous game. And in this world divided by blood, who will win?
The buzz for this book flapped around my ears constantly urging me to take notice. Well, it snagged my attention and that was all she wrote. I was glued to the pages of this spellbinding adventure and thought of every excuse to get out of daily duties just to live in the beautifully complex world that Aveyard created.
The characters were outstanding and the plot wickedly twisted with its treachery. Oh how I love Mare! She is what I love, love in heroines. She’s fierce and I was constantly delighted to be inside her head as she navigated her way through a host of danger. The clues were there but like Mare, I didn’t know who to trust. Aveyard did an excellent job keeping me guessing.
